Jillian Lacy, January, EXERCISE!!

Happy Valentine's Day!

January 2010

I am Jill Lacy.  I live in Farmington with my awesome husband Dan and our 4 cute kids: Raylee (10), Avery (8), Ryker (6), and Grey (19 months).   My husband is a Jr. High teacher at Centerville Jr. High and I am a stay-at-home mom and I tutor math in the evenings. I love being a mom, but it is a test for me. I am an only child and dealing with 4 noisy, fighting children tests my patience each day. But I can honestly say that I have the best kids and love my job! I enjoy woodworking, board games, Zelda, shopping alone, listening to audiobooks, and going on dates with my hubby.

I met Nora through my awesome sister-in-law Michelle. My husband and I love board games and Michelle and Steve are the only couple willing to play with us.  They invited us over for a New Year's Eve party several years ago and James and Nora were there. Nora is almost as competitive as my husband so we had a great time playing them.  Since that time we have played games several more times and had a few fun outings together.  I really love Nora. She is so friendly and outgoing.  She has a way of making everyone feel comfortable and liked!

My goal for January was to start a 90-day exercise program.  After I gave birth to my 3rd baby, I knew I need to change my eating/exercise habits.  I started dieting and exercising.  It was so rewarding! I finally felt good about myself and I was doing things I had never done before. I ran my first 5k and 10k and I also completed a sprint triathlon. Things have not gone as well after this 4th baby. I can't seem to pull myself out of the baby slumps.  I have no energy and no desire to diet (not that I ever want to do that).  When I heard about Nora's project, I thought it would be a good chance for me to try and work myself out of this funk.
My cute family at Christmas!
I chose to follow the exercise program on http://bikinibodymommy.com/. I chose this program mainly because it is very doable. She is a mom and when she created the challenge she was a single mom. Almost every workout can be completed in 20 minutes or less. I needed something short because my toddler is not very patient. :) And even though it is short, I get very sore. She knows how to work muscles that haven't been worked in a long time!
Rice Eccles Stadium. Go Utes!!!
I am only a third of the way through the program, but it is going good. I haven't been perfect, but I have worked out at least 5 days each week. I finally found a time that works for me and that has made all the difference. I wish I could report that I am feeling a ton better and I have added diet to my exercise, but that hasn't happened yet.  I have a feeling this is going to be a very long process, but I am super glad to have made a start.

Yea, Jill! I am excited to try your program! We'll have to find a time to meet up too! I would love some tips on how you include your kids in exercise, because I know you do. I'm afraid I'm raising some children that don't know how to physically challenge themselves.

It's so hard starting a program like this. Keep it up! If you do start a diet program, I highly recommend the free MyFitnessPal app. It's great for counting calories and it greatly opened my eyes to nutritional quality of foods. Dieting stinks! Don't get me wrong. But this helps a little. Good luck!

Sorry for not commenting until now! Moving is very life altering! I'm so glad you joined projects connect. And way to go committing to a program that's doable. I'm all for doable.
ps...I'm all for competitive too, but I think Michelle's tactics work the best. Pretend not to care or engage but really she's strategically immersed from the beginning and swoops in for the win, every. time. We'll have to play again soon.

I like seeing so many people place an emphasis on exercise, and thanks for including the workout link.

Thanks for sharing your link. Always good to have new exercises to change things up!

If you don't seem to be able to feel well, you may want to look in to having your thyroid checked. Make sure they test T3 and T4, not just TSH. Most docs don't do that and misdiagnose.

Great job. I always feel better about myself and have more energy when I exercise. Great goal.

You are so consistent! That will really pay off.

What a good goal! I'll have to check that out, I need a new exercise routine. It's so hard to feel motivated when your body is different after kids... not to mention your energy level! Way to go!
