Michelle Thurber- Couch to 5K

Happy Valentine's Day!  I have to show my cute Valentines from the girls.
And.... my card from my cute husband!  This is honestly us every morning.  Our boys are night time ninjas, and we only have a queen size bed!  I have resorted to making them a bed on the floor and redirecting them there.

Nora has been talking about this project for a long time I think it has become part of her nesting! I'm so glad to be a part of it and I have enjoyed all your posts!

Jill, the other poster today, is my wonderful sister in law!

Now how do I know wonderful Nora? My sweet husband, Steve, went to high school with Nora, so I am thankful to see a friendly face at his class reunions, but I mostly know Nora from our Ticklegrass Road house. I lucked out and got picked to be her friend!!! We walked in the mornings, rain or shine, pregnant and on icy roads. She inspired me to try something new and teach preschool at home after retiring from my school district job. Nora also has a gift of keeping in contact with friends in which I am forever grateful!

We now live in Davis County and are soooo excited that Nora and her family is moving closer. Her kids are going to the same elementary school I went to! I have five wonderful children ages 11, 8, 6, 4, and almost 1. Ahh- I can't believe my baby is almost one! Which brings me to this months goal. I wanted to start a couch to 5k this month. I have a ton of reasons, from being out of shape and wanting to lose some weight, to just wanting to refocus on me. I love babies and being pregnant, but it is sadly time to move on to another phase of life that I am finally getting excited about! With that I lose most of my excuses! I'm not going to get round and pregnant again, so it is time to find the body I had before babies, even the one I had after babies 1 and 2 :). I also got suckered into signing up for our neighborhood Ragnar team. I have never really enjoyed exercising, but I LOVE socializing. So if I pair exercise (blah) with a social benefit (Yea!) I hopefully will stick with it.

I started with what I'm great at, buying supplies. For my birthday, my exercise and running loving husband gave a gift certificate to a fancy running store. I finally went, found out my feet are amazingly normal, tried on honestly 15 pairs of shoes, and walked out with the cutest hot pick running shoes ever! Now the hard part, the actual running part. The air was so icky in January that I just resigned myself to the treadmill, which hasn't turned out as horrible as I imagined. I also had to find a time to run. I'm not a early riser (partly because I am married to a night owl) and my motivation fizzles in the evening so Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings, after Mr. Baby goes down for a nap, are my running days and time.

I've been going for 3 weeks so far! It's getting a little easier each time. I can totally run through a figure skating short program! I'm sure before long there will be less walking and more running, baby steps, right? This is a long running goal, so I'll keep you updated.

My February goal is: Project Doorknob. I got new doorknobs for Christmas, but they are still in a box in the garage. I have grand plans of painting doors too, it just makes sense right? Take off door knobs, paint doors, but doors are next to molding, and molding is next to baseboards, hmmm. We will see!

Running gets so much more fun when the weather is nice! You'll love Ragnar. It's more socializing than running. Such motivation... hot pink running shoes?! That would motivate me!

I love the Valentine's Day card!! Our kids aren't in our bed, but I feel like they have a 6th sense. Dad is kissing mom? Time to scream bloody murder! :)

I am super proud of you for starting your couch to 5k! We need to find a way to do something together so we can be inspiration buddies. What program are you following?

Steve told me to look up the Hall somethings program, it was like run or 90 secs, walk for 2 minutes. But if I am watching the clock the whole time it just makes it more yuck! So, I try to just go with, run until the next American Idol contestant is done, or until the figure skating program is done. I haven't really pushed myself this week and indulged in way too many Valentine treats! I would love to meet up, it would decrease my wimpiness. :)

I love the Valentine you chose. Good luck with your goal. As someone who thinks she can't run half a block, I take heart at your figure skating short program stamina!

I want to see the pink shoes! And way to go on doing the couch to 5K..it works, I've done it and so has James. Thanks for doing the project. The socializing part of exercise is my biggest motivation. I love to be out doing and engaged. And I can't wait to see project doorknob. Good luck, you can do it!

I don't love running either, but I love the way that I feel after I run! Davis county is a great place to run outside! There are some good trails around and good neighborhoods to explore. Hot pink shoes sound awesome! Way to stick to your goal!
