Please don't judge... things are just different with your baby.
This is Luke - kid #5 in our family. He has been an absolute joy. He also shared a bedroom with his mom and dad until he was 3 and a half.
While our 1980's house has plenty of square footage, it unfortunately does not have a lot of bedrooms. When Luke was born, we had him sleep in the master bedroom for practical reasons. As he grew, we just seemed to keep him there. He progressed from a cradle, to a crib, to a toddler bed - all while remaining in our room. His 3rd birthday came and went, and he still remained in our room. Finally, in January, my husband noticed he was starting to store toys and pennies under his pillow, and we took the hint - he was ready for his own space.
Even though there is an 8-year gap, we figured that the best fit for now would be to have our oldest and youngest share a room, and along with that, a closet. While the closet was big enough, it was built in the 80's - and lacking built-in closet organizers.
I forgot to take a before picture of the closet - but this one is in the other bedroom and pretty much identical- not too bad, but not very practical either.
We decided to build some of our own closet organizers from some extra lumber we found in our basement from the previous owners. We wanted two rows of hanging bars, but also cubbies down the center that could hold bins we already had from Ikea. The best part of this project was that it was started and finished on a single Saturday!! Believe me, we have had plenty of projects drag out to the point that the shop vac and the air compressor became part of our home decor, but this one was different.
And now the after...
I don't know that the boys were as excited as I was, but so far the closet has remained neat and organized, and Luke has remained out of our bedroom.
It has been so fun to read all of your posts!! See you all next month!!!

I'm impressed how perfectly all the bins fit! Way to go! I could see how letting your baby go could be hard. It's so nice Sterling will be such a great example to him (I know all about awesome older sibling examples;)
Very Impressive.
You guys are professional! I love it! And don't worry...our 5 year old still sleeps in a crib! Ha!
No judgment here! My six year old got kicked out of his room when we had our baby and currently sleeps on the couch ;(. Whatever works right! The closet looks awesome! I love projects that can get done quickly.
Right, I'm not judging either! I understand how it is to have your number five baby, at 3 1/2. It's just different than it was with the others. The closet looks amazing, nice work. I like how there's a separation in the closet so one child can have one half and the other can claim the other half is his. Great job!

Impressive work. "Shop vac and compressor being home furnishings" so true! Man that kid is cute, and now sleeping in his own space! Very cool project and way to get it done, using stuff you already had, bonus!
Nice organizers! It is so great to have a place for everything!
So amazing! That closet looks so much better. You and Trent have done so much to that house!
Oh wow! Great job on that closet! I need some organizers in my closet. I may be changing my goals!
Love it! He is such a doll & those little babies #5...there's something special for sure.
