Michelle Thurber- Project Doorknob- February

Blogger is in full rebellion currently.  Soooo, here is the abbreviated version and pictures to come soon!

I asked for doorknobs for Christmas.  I love home improvement and my husband does not, so asking for work on the house for a gift is the best way to get things done :)
I took off the doorknobs and painted the doors.  eventually I'll get to the trim too.  Steve put on the doorknobs for me, Yay!
I like high gloss trim and doors and have tried to do it with a latex paint, but it takes sooooo many coats to get the coverage I want.  This time I tried an oil based paint and I loved it!  I would never paint a wall with it, but for doors and trim I was really happy.
Here are my oil based paint tips.  It takes forever to dry, but you can touch up drips much longer.  I am also a naptime painter, so with a latex paint I would just put the paint brush in a plastic bag and it would be great for the next day.  I tried that with my oil based paint and it was a solid rock!  But if you throw it in the freezer it will be great a whole week later!

March- My kids are off track all month.  We are going to do something fun and something educational every week.  Thank goodness for nice weather!!!

Oh- and prayers for Jill Lacy's daughter Raylee.  She has some crazy childhood autoimmune disease that is supposed to last about a month.

I can't wait to see your doors!! Lacy told me that you got a bunch of them done. Oil based paint sounds scary! I am a super messy painter!

On a side note, I couldn't get my pictures to work either so I switched my browser to google chrome and then they worked.

Naptime painter! Haha, that's me too! How much painting or home-improving can I sqeeze into 2 hours in the afternoon, AND do it in complete silence? It's amazing! Can't wait to see pictures of the new doorknobs!

Steve put the door knobs on! I swear they're wired for stuff like that. I'll get all ambitious and jump in with both feet, and then James come along to help and he can do it twice as fast and the quality and problem solving is top notch.
And way to use oil based paint. The coverage and finished product are impressive aren't they! The moldings in my last house and the cabinets I painted were oil based. The cabinets were with Benjamin Moore, Satin Impervo, paint. I can't believe you did the doors too! Impressive.

That sounds like a great project, and hopefully it feels super rewarding to get it done! Oil paint is a ton of work! I helped my mom paint her kitchen cabinets with oil based paint when I was in high school and it was a huge job! So way to go!!

Michelle, you and Donna are on to something. I can see the TV show now: "Naptime DIY --- projects that can be done in stealth mode while the kiddies sleep."

Did you apply the new oil paint onto previously painted doors? What prep is involved to paint oil on latex?
