It is TOTALLY the season for family reunions, right? Projects Connect is getting TWO reunion posts in a row! Lucky you! This reunion was literally a year in the making. Every year, each of the 9 siblings takes a turn planning the reunion, at the venue of their choice! We've had places like Park City, the cabin (like in Stefanie's last post), Lava Hot Springs, Bear Lake, and even Grand Teton Nat'l Park (on Nora's turn, obviously!). They've all been wonderful! I've been thinking for years, "When it's my turn, where should it be?" As it came closer, the obvious answer was Midway!
Wasatch Mountain State Park has a nice campground. Actually, it's just okay (the main campground). The individual spots are really close together and there's some shade. They also have a few group sites, some right by busy roads, some with no shade, some with no grass, etc. Bevan and I stumbled across their Harvest Group Site a few years ago, when we were visiting Huber Grove. It's away from the main campground, up Snake Creek Road. Totally NOT like the rest. It's in its own little grove. There's green grass, shady apple trees, a creek, hookups for trailers, our own bathrooms, hot showers, and not a LICK of DIRT! Perfect! The catch is... you have to reserve it the instant it's available, like 11 months before! Especially if you want a primo time, like the first weekend in August. I highly recommend it for any family reunions. So worth it! If anybody wants a great site, check it out!
It's funny that most of my family likes camping and outdoors, because we did NOT do anything like that growing up. Our vacations were in condos in Park City and Bear Lake, not in tents. My first taste of wilderness and adventuring was in college. I have since made it part of my life! ...including this reunion!
Now comes the agenda... what do you do with 16 adults and 24 kids?
We used every sweet connection and every favor we could muster from our friends in Midway to create a great boating day at Deer Creek Reservoir. We had a boat and many water toys. There was also hiking to Timpanogus Cave/ Summit, Cascade Springs, the "duck pond", golfing , farmers market, crafts, skits, and lots and lots of food! Not everything went according to plan, but it was okay! We improvised on a few things and everyone had fun!
The key to a great reunion is planning ahead of time, ...but then just going with the flow and letting changes happen and activities create themselves! The kids had the most fun when we didn't have anything planned at all! They waded in the creek, played in the sand in the horse shoe pits, threw apples, chased a feral cat, and created their own games and skits! Can't wait until it's my turn again to plan.... in another 9 years!

Donna, It was such an amazing reunion and I'm thrilled that it will be there again next year. The fact that everyone contributed and we all had so much fun, was awesome. My favorite are still the skits and the boating. I felt like I was a teenager on the tube!!.
I heard rave reviews from Nora about this reunion. Woo-hoo!
